What are citation generators?
Last Updated: Feb 27, 2023 Views: 150

Citation generators are online tools that will automatically create citations for you based on information you provide. Please be aware that citation generators often provide incorrect results and must be double checked for accuracy.  If you choose to use a citation generator, take the time to make the necessary corrections using the appropriate MLA or APA Guide.

These are just some citation generators that sometimes build inaccurate citations:

  • Many library searches, look for the quotes icon
  • Many library databases (ProQuest, EBSCO, etc.), look for the quotes icon
  • Free Online Generators (EasyBib, JabRef, KnightCite, Mendeley, NoodleTools, Qiqqa, Citation MachineZotero).
  • Free Citation Management Software (Zotero, Mendeley)
  • Microsoft Word [Note: Word uses the former editions of MLA and APA. Currently Word does not have an update for the current editions of MLA or APA so any citations generated will need to be checked for accuracy.]
